The Wee Holt

Tuesday morning I went to the doctor for my first-ever sonogram. There, in the dimly-lit room as I reclined on a comfy couch (and Eric watched from a nearby office-chair) we viewed the best TV show I'd ever seen: our adorable Wee Holt dancing across the silver screen!

The sonogram tech slowly rolled his sensor along my tummy, projecting images of delicate fingers, a tiny nose, and two big, big eyes. He made sure the baby had two arms and two legs and five fingers and a little nose. He took all kinds of measurements to be sure the head and body were just right in size. We got to see into the baby's brain, and even spied the four chambers of our Wee Holt's heart, each pumping in perfect succession!

For a long time the Wee Holt remained tucked down by my hip, effectively hiding any gender-clues. But the tech took his time, scanning first to the baby's kidneys and next for a close-up of the spine... all the while giving our baby plenty of time to drift peacefully upward. Once re-positioned, it became quite clear that our Wee Holt... is a he-Holt.

The tech said our baby looked beautiful, and I couldn't agree more! But a more detailed examination of our Wee Holt's measurements will come in a couple weeks after the sonogram pictures are reviewed by a doctor in Dallas. Details we know so far (besides his boy-ness) are that he's 8 ounces at the moment, that he's 18 weeks along, and that his official due date has been set for December 21st.

Hi, Jen: I so look forward to reading your posts, especially about big events like seeing your son for the very first time. (Wow! YOUR and ERIC's son!) You have such a gift for descriptive writing that the reader feels as though they are right there with you.

Please share a hug with Eric, from us, and tell him how happy Ted and I are to be able to share in your parental journey. By the way, will you now be calling "The Wee Holt" by name? Love and blessings to you all!!!

Thanks, all, for the congratulations! As you have read by now, I'm sure, the he-Holt is a she-Holt... but we are still as thrilled as ever! :) Our wee-Holt continues to be in the best of health -- which we are so grateful to God for -- and I'm feeling great (if somewhat, um, large!)
