Just when I think I've seen all the wildlife our desert home has to offer something new crosses my path... or Eric's path, in this case. You see, last week a strange bird flew just a few feet in front of Eric's face as we were walking back from an evening at the park. My first thought was, "Wow, that looks like a flying log!" -- the bird was very stout around the middle without a well-defined head or tail. With the help of binoculars, we spied the unusual bird atop a nearby pine tree and discovered it was a Great Horned Owl!
Since then we have seen the owl two or three more times in the pines. His majestic stature and resounding hooting have really been a treat to see and hear!
