April Fools

I love April Fool's Day.  I enjoy playing pranks on others (the harmless, funny kind) and enjoy being pranked (well, the harmless, funny kind).  But this year Life Itself seemed eager to play a few practical jokes on Eric and I.

Take last night, for instance:  Eric and I were sitting down to dinner together -- peacefully enjoying bowls of vegetable beef soup.  Then all of a sudden Eric made the most dreadful face, desperately grabbed for his glass, and chugged mouthful after mouthful of water.  It seems a beef "bullion cube" I'd dropped in the soup hadn't quite dissolved... and the result was worse than any "switch the salt and sugar" prank I'd ever seen or heard about: a whole mouthful of crunchy, salty nastiness!

Take the night before last, too:  Eric and I were peacefully sleeping, when we awoke to the smell of something burning in our apartment.  After at least half-an-hour of searching high and low for the source of the stench, we called the apartment's maintenance man... who discovered my paring knife (my one and only sharp knife!) hopelessly melted in the bottom of our dishwasher.

I trust the Powers that Be will realize that tomorrow April Fools Day will be over.  I usually like pranks.  But I'm ready to give it a rest for another year, now!

The bullion cube incident will make a funny story to tell your children in years to come. "Remember soon after we were first married, Honey, when you left a bullion cube in my bowl of soup..." haha
