Away For A Few Days

This is just a little note to say that I will be away from the blog for a few days.  My younger brother, Jeff (now Br. Anthony), will be visiting us from Italy for the next several days.  Since he belongs to a Benedictine Monastery overseas and the men live according to a very fixed schedule, this visit home is a rare treat.  Most of the year, Br. Anthony and the other monks spend a good deal of their day praying the psalms, taking care of their church (which is a centuries-old tourist hot-spot just outside of Rome), gardening, and teaching/taking classes.  Precious little time is spent "vacationing" and only one week per year is allotted for a home visit.

For our parts, Eric and I have spent the last two days desperately dusting (me) and raking (him) and cooking (me) and re-organizing (him) so that my parent's home will be just gleaming when he arrives tonight.

So, ciao for the next several days!  I shall return, I'm sure, with plenty to share about the visit and  loads of pictures.  Meanwhile, feel free to check out the monastery's website at www.osbnorica.org.  And if you're ever in Italy, be sure to stop by it -- I have yet to taste better homemade pasta or fresh vanilla cake!
